Direct and Rapid High‐Temperature Upcycling of Degraded Graphite

Recycling the degraded graphite is becoming increasingly important, which can helped conserve natural resources, reduce waste, and provide economic environmental benefits. However, current regeneration methods usually suffer from use of harmful chemicals, high energy time consumption, poor scalability. Herein, we report a continuously high-temperature heating (≈2000 K) process to directly rapidly upcycle containing impurities. A sloped carbon heater designed continuous source, enables robust control over temperature profile, eliminating thermal barrier for heat transfer compared conventional furnace heating. The upcycling be completed within 0.1 s when rolls down heater, allowing us produce upcycled on large scale. High-temperature removes impurities enhances graphitization degree (002) interlayer spacing, making more suitable lithium intercalation deintercalation. assembled graphite||Li cell displays reversible capacity ≈320 mAh g−1 at 1 C with retention 96% after 500 cycles, comparable state-of-the-art recycled graphite. method chemical-free, rapid, scalable way graphite, adaptable recycle other electrode materials.
